Check out the torch decoder the NY Times cranked out, (do any of them sleep over there?)

Mouse over the timeline from the swastika- bearing torches at the Berlin Olympics in 1936, to this year's scroll-shape in Bejing and find out designers and factoids. Some are truly medieval in shape, some look more like a kitchen whisk or a golf putter. My favorite, as a Japano-phile, is the one from the winter games in Nagano, designed to reflect the shape of snow crystals.

Plus the reporter Phil Patton uses terms like "international star-chitects" and "lemon squeezers".

Circles are sized by the number of medals that countries won in summer
Olympic Games. Use the slider to view past Olympics, or click on a country
to display a list of its medal winners.
