PAPER TO PIXELS: Who is Jeremy LaCroix?

PAPER TO PIXELS: Who is Jeremy LaCroix?

We've got one... and he's still alive, too.
A magazine guy who has jumped into the web with both feet...and very recently.
He's got some serious explaining to do.

Jeremy LaCroix, former art director of WIRED, is the creative director of Lifestyles at CBS interactive which includes, and

Prior to the jump from print magazines to the web he held positions as a designer at titles such as The Industry Standard, Forbes ASAP, iQ and Infoworld before becoming the art director of WIRED magazine where he was part of leading the title to both Silver and Gold Medal Magazine of the Year wins.

Jeremy studied graphic design and illustration at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston.

He lives and works in San Francisco.

Tuesday, October 7th, Jeremy will be a panelist on SPD's next event at FIT, Paper To Pixels.
We had a quick question for Jeremy.

BK: What would you say, coming from a high level in the print world, was the biggest shock you had in your first month working on a website?

JC: Tough question because there were so many: I'd say the toughest part was convincing the staff to take more time crafting their work. Literally the culture when I came in was one of editors all scrambling behind a designer's desk and haggling over details while the designers pulled some last minute graphic from flickr, slapped it together and passed it off to the production crew who would have all of an hour to code the layout before the story was pushed live. This was not every story done before my time, but it was more than a few of them.

I implemented a new schedule where all the edit and design work would be signed-off on one week ahead of the "go live" date, giving the production crew enough breathing room to manager their time correctly. That was tough to establish--it's not easy to change a culture like that.
