Sneak Peek: American Photography 24

Sneak Peek: American Photography 24 As most of us know from the email blast of last week, we're not so far away from the release of the American Photography annual, the 24th such installment. This year, AP24 was designed by SPD's very own Scott Dadich, CD of WIRED and features a cover photograph by Plamen Petkov. For the first time, the book is a horizontal affair with a double-spine, hard-cover, 3-piece case with extended flap and magnet enclosure in foil-embossed black satin with a silk-screened printed edge.

The jury (Kathy Ryan, Photo Editor, The New York Times Magazine; Tim Barber, Publisher, Tinyvices.com; Simon Barnett, Director of Photography, Newsweek; Sarah Hasted, Partner, Hasted Hunt Gallery; Catriona Ni Aolain, Director of Photography, ESPN The Magazine; Dora Somosi, Director of Photography, GQ; Susan Zadeh, Artistic Director, EYEMAZING International Photography Magazine) selected 347 photographs from a pool of 9,000 entries.

Copies go on sale at the AI-AP release party on Thursday, November 13, 7-11 pm at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, 172 Norfolk Street (between E. Houston and Stanton).

We'll see you there.

Kudos to Karen Frank, my photo director at More, who's concept was the image on the cover this year. And congrats to Scott and the team for what looks like a gorgeous book. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
