Another summer begins, another kerfuffle stirred up by a foreign fashion magazine: The New York Times today covers the June issue of French Elle, and photographer Peter Lindbergh's covers and interiors of the glamorous sans makeup or retouching--what the Times refers to as a "raw-celebrity" movement.

Okay, this is a great article that articulates well the realities of producing great art, and reaching the "real woman" audience, all while meeting circulation targets. It's all very complex, but I think artists like Peter Lindbergh's beautiful aesthetic of 'the natural' will no less thrive, even if we don't see it develop as a major trend in beauty & fashion.
