Reader's Digest, September 2011
Art Director: Dean Abatemarco
Photographer: Andre Souroujon
Creative Director: Robert Newman

This newsstand-only cover of Reader's Digest is a reprise of a cover of The Village Voice that ran right after 9/11/. See the original and more after the jump.

Ted Keller was the art director for this cover of The Voice, from September 25, 2001. At the time they had the then-Voice photo intern, Andre Souroujon, take a postcard, go to Brooklyn, and photograph his hand holding the card. Says Reader's Digest creative director Robert Newman: "I always loved that cover of The Voice. For me it was the most memorable and evocative image that was published after the event. I still can't look at it without getting misty-eyed. When it came time for us to do a Reader's Digest cover tied to the 10th anniversary of 9/11, this seemed like a natural to reprint. It hits all the right notes of sadness and the sense of loss, but also gives a feeling of hope and pride."
