Ballgame Banter: SI's Christopher Hercik

Ballgame Banter: SI's Christopher Hercik Christopher Hercik, Creative Director of Sports Illustrated, and John Korpics, VP/Creative Director for Print and Digital Media at ESPN the Magazine, will share the stage January 26 to talk about their demanding jobs atop the world of sports. Both started their careers as magazine designers and evolved into much more, overseeing not only print but apps, websites, television and books. In advance of SPD's "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" event, both share their favorite sports moments:

I was one of three boys in our family and, as you can imagine, we were all diehard Philly fans (Eagles, Phillies and Flyers) and our free time was consumed by sports. So when my dad took us to Game 5 of the 1983 World Series, Phillies versus Orioles, it was a dream come true . . .  until they lost, in a shutout! Then came the misery, which now seems fitting for a town that once famously booed Santa. But thanks to a 2008 World Series championship, the Phillies are back on Santa's nice list.

On a non-professional sports level, attending the 2006 Torino Olympics and, more specifically, the opening ceremonies, is something I'll never forget.  One hundred thousand fans from all around the world in one venue, coming together, to enjoy the thrill of sport: It's a moment larger than life, an indescribable feeling of being a part of a global community. It was a moment that gave me chills I can still feel.

Speaking of chills, one of the greatest sports moments ever, that I know I share with Joe and John, is when the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue arrives in the mail!
