SPD Summer Reading: The Best "Worst President"

SPD Summer Reading: The Best

Given the current political climate of our presidential election year, we can't help but think of our present Commander-in-Chief.  Regardless of differing opinions on the State of the Union, even The New York Times conservative columnist David Brooks recently wrote, "Obama radiates an ethos of integrity, humanity, good manners and elegance that I'm beginning to miss, and that I suspect we will all miss a bit, regardless of who replaces him."

However, there are as always just as many people who can't fathom how Obama is supported by anyone at all. Enter political analyst, Mark Hannah's new book, The Best "Worst President" What the Right Gets Wrong About Barack Obama (Dey St./Harper Collins), with illustrations by SPD (and New Yorker) favorite Bob Staake. Hannah takes on 50 conservative criticisms of Obama and refutes them, giving progressive readers every tool necessary to debate their conservative family members, friends and colleagues at the Fourth of July party this weekend and beyond.

See below for some of Staake's famous covers of The New Yorker and read on to see illustrations from Hannah's new book.

Staake's often Obama-centric illustrations have been award winning fixtures on the covers of The New Yorker for years so it's fitting that he has created ten chapter openers for the book.
