WoodWing + Adobe: What It Means for You

WoodWing + Adobe: What It Means for You

At Day 1 of Adobe's MAX conference yesterday there were two big announcements: Adobe has purchased TypeKit (so get ready to see Cooper Black all over your favorite websites) and Adobe is partnering with WoodWing. The Adobe-WoodWing partnership raises a lot of questions about its impact on the design community. Joe Zeff Design, a Silver Authorized Solution Partner of WoodWing, provides some of the answers. One thing we already know we like is what you'll hear more about after the jump -- "much more accessible for small shops and freelance designers." Here's the full Q&A:

Why would WoodWing join forces with Adobe?
WoodWing's primary focus has always been related to workflow, helping publishers push content to different channels. When the iPad emerged as a new channel, there was no existing solution for publishers to make apps, so WoodWing developed its own. Its partnership with Adobe allowed WoodWing to create a set of tools that worked with Adobe InDesign, and ultimately competed with Adobe's own solution. Rather than continue to compete with its partner, WoodWing returns its focus to workflow with Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite serving as the publishing engine for tablets.

Get Up To Speed on Adobe's CS5 In Just One Night

One thing we hear, frequently, at HQ is something along the lines of, "I really, really need you guys to do a night that's all about the iPad." And we promise--we are working on that! Something else we hear frequently though is that no matter what you're doing on the iPad, you're most likely doing that in CS5--to the relief of many, it is most likely some combination of the new and improved InDesign, maybe some Flash Catalyst skills, better-integrated Photoshop and Illustrator techniques. So before we get to the "just about the iPad" night, make sure your skills are up-to-date and ready to go--we have a special Summer Speakeasy on July 14th that's not only going to get you ready to go, but is free for current SPD members (and just a little moolah for non-members). Get the info and registration after the jump, and get ready to get better at everything... … MORE

Flash Catalyst: NO CODE

We've all seen it happen--maybe it has happened to you: you're in a meeting, and someone asks for wireframes. Everyone starts falling all over themselves to explain that it's time to bring in the developer, designers don't do wireframes... that's how it's been at least. Get ready to take greater control of your projects, directing exactly what you want to see in the design, and seeing it--without writing code. Welcome to Flash Catalyst: … MORE

Hey Members! Fuel your creativity, check your inbox, save 15%

It wasn't too long ago we received an e-mail at HQ that went something like this:
This may look, sound and read like a testimonial and it sure is! I have six work stations in my studio that we're upgrading to Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Standard. The price of each upgrade is $499. With six work stations that's a lot of money! Because I'm a member of SPD, Adobe has given me a 15% discount which saved the studio $450. That's almost the cost of one complete package. (And it is, in fact, the cost of THREE SPD MEMBERSHIPS!--Ed.) There are very few instances in these tough times and in this weak economy that one is given real value and treated well without additional extra costs or hidden fees added on to a simple purchase. I appreciate the professional  programs and networking that SPD offers me and now SPD, with the support of Adobe, just...

Tips & Tricks: From Comp to Working Web Page with Fireworks

We're starting the new year with a little trip in the time machine, but admittedly, we're not all as up-to-speed as we'd like (need) to be when it comes to toggling evenly between print and web design. New year means new skills, though, and we're about to fix all of that.

Here we go with the reality: your web editor doesn't want to see your Photoshop comp of the new site feature or app you've developed to go with your print work--today we're going from your comp of starter layouts to a working Fireworks page your web team can run with...
