Creative Director-Southern Living

Southern Living, the nation's 6th largest- monthly consumer magazine, (circ. 2.8 million) has an immediate opening for a Birmingham, AL-based Creative Director to lead the art and photo team. The successful candidate will have deep experience as a flexible, strong, visionary Creative Director or Design Director of a major> national lifestyle magazine. Will have proven success in the graphic voice nuances that differentiate a lifestyle title from a shelter title in the homes, travel, food and garden categories She or he will have directed/managed photo shoots in the above categories, and will be familiar with producing a beautiful magazine for a largely female audience. Knowledge of the South, and/or work experience in this region, will be an advantage. This position requires a skilled manager familiar with running a large team that produces multiple editions in InDesign. Southern Living has been thoroughly redesigned for the October issue and the Creative Director will work within this new design to deliver a beautiful magazine 12 times per year for a demanding, loyal and diverse readership

Family Circle Art and Photo Intern - FALL

Family Circle magazine is looking for enthusiastic Fall interns for the art/photo department. We are seeking someone who is available 2-3 days per week. Intern will work closely with all designers and photo editors and will be responsible with helping with the design of both front of book and back of book pages, assisting with photo research, circulating layouts, updating mini boards, and a few administrative tasks. Internship begins late Early Sept. and ends in December.

Photo Editor - Freelance, VH1 Digital

VH1.com is looking for a self-motivated photo editor with at least 2 years photo editing experience and an online portfolio demonstrating these skills. Advanced knowledge of Photoshop is a must, with a focus on cropping, color correction, retouching, and preparing images for the web. Excellent organizational and communication skills and attention to detail are essential, as is a keen knowledge of pop culture. The flexibility to quickly switch between tasks and produce at the highest level is key. This is a full-time temporary position. May have to work occasional nights/weekends. Design Assistant

WSJ. Magazine, the weekend magazine for The Wall Street Journal, is looking for a an ambitious workaholic design assistant. Ideal candidates are newly graduated design students who are looking for their first editorial design position. The position is full-time freelance and has a very modest weekly salary. As part of a small editorial staff you will work directly with members of the the whole magazine, attending editorial meetings, scanning incoming art, designing pages, setting type, and serving as the point person with our prepress house, to name a few of your responsibilities. NYLON Magazine Online Art Internship

Looking for someone who is proficient in Photoshop mainly, but experience with InDesign, Illustrator, HTML, and Dreamwaver would also be a plus. Main responsibilities include resizing photos, designing graphics for daily online articles, online image searching, and uploading content through our site management system. Additionally, all interns are expected to help on occasional admin activities. Interns must be available to work at least 2-3 full days during the week. All internships are unpaid.

Design Internship with WIRED

WIRED magazine seeks a design intern for Fall 2009. The ideal candidate will commit 25-30 hrs/week from Sept through Dec at our San Francisco office. The internship is open to 3rd and 4th year full-time students and must be taken for credit. You'll participate as part of the ASME and SPD award-winning design department, working directly with art directors, designers, photo department, and editors. You'll be expected to help with front-of-book page design, print and distribute manuscripts, manage the wall of current issue pages, create illustrations, scan items for the design department, organize all tear sheets and help with award submissions. The right candidate will hold many of the same responsibilities as a full-time staff member, including concepting art for stories, collaborating with the editorial and photo staff, and designing smart, attractive layouts.
