Designer-Cooking Light

We are looking for a DESIGNER for the BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA office who would be working for the new Creative Director in NYC and with the Art Director in Alabama. A minimum of 4 years magazine editorial design experience is required. This individual should be interested in food, nutrition and human interest stories. The perfect candidate has a strong sense of classic typography and knows a beautiful, stylish and delicious food photograph when they see one. This designer would be helping us refine the recent redesign and push the magazines visuals to new heights. They would also be creating dynamic and fresh layouts for the front and back of book, assigning illustration, and art directing some photoshoots.

Country Living photo/art intern SPRING SEMESTER

We are looking for someone organized, smart, and hardworking, who is excited to learn how a art/photo department at a magazine operates. Interns should have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently. Responsibilities will include maintaining the photo archives, assisting on shoots, logging-in and returning art, and being a contributing member of the department. Interns should be comfortable communicating over the phone, in person, and via e-mail.

Esquire Magazine Spring 2010 Art Intern

Esquire magazine (Hearst Corporation) is seeking a junior or senior graphic design student for an internship in the Art Department. The intern will assist in the daily workflow of the magazine. Duties will include: updating layouts, minor imaging work, and some design. Candidates should have an interest in magazine publishing, strong working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop. Duration: Spring Semester Applicants must receive college credit for the internship. You must turn in a letter on college letterhead stating you will receive credit. The letter must be signed by a professor, advisor, of the registrar. This position is unpaid. A commitment of 2-3 days a week is required, from 10 am to 6 pm (flexible). The candidate should have 3-5 years of experience in Web design, ideally a mix of UI, UX, editorial/page layout chops. Additionally the designer may work on our sister site Urbanbaby.com as needed. The part time schedule can be customized to fit the needs of the designer and the designer needs to be onsite.

Design Internship with WIRED

WIRED magazine is currently looking for a design department intern for Spring 2010. The ideal intern can commit 25-30 hours per week from January through May in our San Francisco office. The internship is open to all third and fourth year full-time design students and must be taken for credit. You will participate as an active member of the ASME and SPD award-winning design department, working directly with the art directors, designers, photo department, production staffers, and editors. You'll be expected to help with front-of-book page layout, print out and distribute manuscripts, update and manage the wall displaying current issue pages, create illustrations in Adobe Illustrator for various parts of the magazine, scan items for the design department, organize all tear sheets and help with award submissions. Please email your cover letter, resume, and at least 5 pdf samples of your design work (or a link to portfolio site). Experience in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is a must.
