Art Director

  • Job Description:
    The Art Director reports to the Design Director and is responsible for designing cover stories, special packages, departments, and occasionally covers. The position requires a strong, organized leader who is comfortable art directing and managing the workflow of the art department. The Art Director collaborates closely with the photo and editorial departments to ensure a consistent visual identity for the magazine and special projects as necessary. This position requires someone who can work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, is able to multi-task and meet weekly production deadlines. Responsibilities: - Work closely with creative team to conceptualize, research and plan visuals for the magazine. - Manages and directs art department staff. Responsible for hiring and training of new employees, including freelancers. - Responsible for daily workflow and layout reviews. - Work with photo/edit/production staff to monitor and meet all production and shipping deadlines. - Work with pre-press vendor to review color correction (when Design Director is not available). - Work with production and art departments to ensure quality control on designs.

  • Job Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in related field - 7+ years consumer magazine experience (weekly a plus) - Sophisticated sense of design, photography, and typography. - Problem solving skills, able to come up with quick design solutions when page configurations change. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. - Strong organizational and time-management skills - Ability to work well in a deadline driven, collaborative environment. - Strong attention to detail - Strong interest in television and pop culture a plus - Adobe Creative Suite (CS4), Microsoft Office, (Web/Interactive Design experience a plus)
