Art Director, San Francisco

As a key member of a three-person creative staff, the Art Director contributes to the overall look of this National Magazine Award-winning title, and is instrumental in designing features and FOB departments, in collaboration with the Design Director. This is a hands-on position involving all aspects of creating one of the nation's most visually sophisticated monthly magazines: conceptualizing and generating design approaches, assigning photography and illustration, directing photo shoots, creating infographics and charts, doing photo research, following layouts through all phases of production, overseeing color correction, and shipping files.

Deputy Art Director - Cooking Light

Cooking Light is the largest epicurean magazine in the US and is owned by Time Inc. It has been undergoing a brand transformation for over a year which has been received very well by its audience. The perfect candidate for this spot will have a love and understanding of food and food photography. He or she will be an enthusiastic team player as we operate out of two offices, one in NYC and one in Birmingham, AL. They will also have excellent typographic and conceptual skills to create delightful and informative editorial. The deputy will be working very closely with the Creative Director and the Photo director in NYC.

Deputy responsibilities include:
-Design most features well stories from concept through to production with informative and delightful design solutions.
-Photo art direction of some stories
-Design some front and back of book pieces on a regular basis
-Assign illustration
-Point person for all layouts leading up to and during the close cycle between NYC and BHAM
-Work closely with production dept in Birmingham on paging and story lengths for pagination, as well as general continual updates?
-The Deputy AD, along with the whole team is expected to pitch in on other projects when necessary
-Deputy must possess full knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Woodwing

Senior Design Production Associate, Martha Stewart Living

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking a Senior Art Production Associate to join the Martha Stewart Living team. This position is responsible for working on Martha Stewart Living Magazine and the iPad app. Under the guidance of the Managing Editor and Design Director, and working along with the Art and Edit teams, the Art Production Associate will play an integral part in the workflow and production on a daily basis. Responsibilities: Work with the art team to tighten layouts for the release of composed pages. Implement the design standards established by the art team using the current production guidelines. Work closely with the editorial staff during all phases of the type workflow. Assist in preparing layouts and placing interactive elements for the iPad version of the magazine. Requirements: 7+ years' production experience in a magazine environment. Expertise in CS5 is essential. Working knowledge of the K4 system is helpful. Must be skilled at tightening layouts, linking images, and creating articles. Should have and meticulous type closing skills: kerning and ragging. Should have experience working in an editorial team, with editors and art directors. An interest in the MSLO content areas is a plus: cooking, decorating, crafts, entertaining, etc.

UCLA Marketing & Special Events - Senior Designer

The Senior Designer will provide design and print production services for UCLA Magazine and other institutional publications and marketing materials developed and produced by the Office of Marketing and Special Events.

You will produce projects and campaigns ranging from a quarterly magazine to brochures, mailers, Invitations, programs and other materials for clients including UCLA External Affairs, campus administration, the College of Letters and Science and professional schools. While the emphasis is on print, some campaigns have a web/ email component as well. The Senior Designer will employ graphic and typographic design techniques, primarily using Adobe InDesign and related software tools, to create effective materials from concept through completion and adhere to current graphic standards and consistency.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of graphic-design principles and formats, knowledge of typography and effective use of type and working knowledge of paper stocks, inks, varnishes, and their suitability for each project. Working knowledge of printing and production processes to determine how best to prepare and coordinate each job is necessary. The successful candidate will have working knowledge of Macintosh systems and related hardware and software, including extensive experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Basic proofreading and editing skills sufficient to spot typos, suggest appropriate ways to shorten headlines or add subheads, captions and pull quotes is necessary. The Art Director works closely with the editorial staff to execute visual concepts and solutions. A typical day may include working on features, news stories, custom charts and graphs, web graphics, marketing materials, or logos. Art Director

Production Coordinator, Runner's World

Runner's World is seeking a full-time Production Coordinator for its Emmaus, PA office. The Coordinator will report to the Design Director and be instrumental in multiple aspects of the visual side of the magazine, including production, design, layout, and photo research. Responsibilities include:
