Art Director, San Francisco

• Job Description:
  As a key member of a three-person creative staff, the Art Director contributes to the overall look of this National Magazine Award-winning title, and is instrumental in designing features and FOB departments, in collaboration with the Design Director. This is a hands-on position involving all aspects of creating one of the nation's most visually sophisticated monthly magazines: conceptualizing and generating design approaches, assigning photography and illustration, directing photo shoots, creating infographics and charts, doing photo research, following layouts through all phases of production, overseeing color correction, and shipping files.

• Job Requirements: The Art Director should have a high level of design sophistication, knowledge of past and current design trends, a good feeling for typography, an interest in working with photographers and illustrators, and a talent for visual storytelling. Must be able to handle large packages with consistency and flair. Looking for someone who is extremely creative, resourceful, fast, flexible, and who enjoys being part of a crack team. Also: Minimum five years editorial design experience Expert in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator Can work independently as well as collaboratively Able to meet deadlines Able to work within small budgets Comfortable juggling multiple tasks Impressive communication skills Able to conceive of the big picture, as well as to finalize all the details Bay Area resident highly preferred
