The Penn Stater magazine seeks a skilled graphic designer to help design and produce a four-color, bimonthly, 80- to 96-page magazine sent to 165,000 members of the Penn State Alumni Association. Duties include designing magazine sections and occasional features; conducting photo research; preparing digital files for prepress; formatting print content and optimizing images for online use; trafficking files through the production process; and participating in brainstorming and planning discussions with art director and editorial staff. This position will primarily execute on design with powerful photo, illustration and info-graphic presentations; managing art acquisition process and budget; commissioning and directing photos and illustrations; conceptualizing layouts and type treatments; producing layout and pages in pre-production; making sure the workflow between art and edit meet the daily and weekly deadlines, maintaining all of the style sheets and templates within the K4 and/or woodwing process; and work as a partner with editors and staff writers to create a look for the magazine that powerfully connects with specialized intelligence needs of business executive readers.
