Nature Conservancy magazine, the flagship publication of the world's leading conservation organization, seeks a designer with 4+ years experience in editorial design to work on department and feature pages for print and digital editions. The Designer will assist the senior design team and help oversee the creation of each magazine issue from design to press. S/he must be both a conceptual and a visual thinker, able to grasp complex issues, communicate them effectively and package information in compelling ways. The Designer will assign illustrations and communicate with illustrators and other vendors. S/he should be an independent designer who works well in a team environment. Must possess strong typographic skills and a sophisticated design sense.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking an exceptionally talented and creative magazine designer to design cover and feature layouts for their quarterly magazine, Preservation on a contract basis.
The art director will have proven experience in publication design, demonstrating sophisticated art direction, design, typography and photography. Responsibilities for this position include: conception, design and layout of 4-5 features, a travel department and cover for each issue--a total of 25-30 pages each issue. Coordinates and contracts with photographers and illustrators in support of the cover and feature designs. Ensures designs are sophisticated, forward looking, cutting edge and brand compliant. Supports a positive and effective team atmosphere, communicating clearly with NationalTrust staff. Follows assigned schedules. Works closely with creative director and editorial staff in communicating various design strategies. Adheres to established style guidelines. Manages complete process from conception through hand-off of final press-ready files.
