    AFAR is seeking an experienced, energetic creative director to lead the visual design of our travel media brand. The ideal candidate should possess 8+ years of print magazine experience, strong typographic expertise, a keen eye for photography and illustration, and a sophisticated and innovative design sensibility. Digital design experience is essential. The creative director manages a small creative team and works with editors to craft the look of AFAR magazine through photos, illustrations, and design. He/she designs features, departments, and covers. He/she is the visual steward for the overall brand, which includes AFAR.com, the AFAR mobile app, the non-profit AFAR Foundation, and the immersive travel series AFAR Experiences.

  • Job Requirements: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator Experience defining the look and feel of a website and designing online content. An understanding of UX and UI Thorough knowledge of image processing and retouching, color correction, and CMYK pre-press and printing processes Managerial experience Must be a proactive self-starter with a collaborative spirit Able to recruit, cultivate, and retain top staff and freelance talent Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills Be both a workhorse and an ideas person who can work with multiple departments (editorial, sales and marketing, digital) Must find satisfaction in both contributing ideas and doing the work to make them happen Must be detail-oriented and deadline-savvy Must have excellent interpersonal, leadership, and presentation skills Must have a passion for travel, an be interested in conceptualizing new and interesting ways to look at travel
