    Architectural Digest is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and extremely organized Photo Editor. Candidates should have a passionate interest in design and/or architecture, as well as art, travel, and culture. This position reports directly to the Art Director, and works closely with all editorial departments. The Photo Editor plays an integral role in the editorial process by working directly with editors and the art department to visualize stories, commission photo shoots, and oversee photo research. A thorough understanding of the tone and voice of the AD brand is essential. Other critical skills include strong communication skills, a sense of humor, and an ability to solve problems while staying calm and in control under pressure. This person will also, on occasion, consult with the web photo editor, regarding appropriate visual solutions for online features.

  • Job Requirements: Primary Responsibilities -Manage the print photo department (three people total, including one full-time assistant editor, plus freelance editorial assistant) -Oversee all shoot production for the magazine. Direct responsibility for producing all well shoots and covers, including booking teams, managing communications, fee and expense negotiations, creating detailed cost estimates and ensuring budget adherence Work with Editor in Chief and Art Director to determine best casting (photographer, stylist, etc.) for all commissioned well shoots Brainstorm with editors. Advise on photography concepts and references, including budget and rights considerations Oversee research for non-commissioned images to be used in-book Scout new talent; meet with agents and/or photographers regularly to cultivate relationships, request and review portfolios, represent AD at art/photo industry events, keep up-to-date with industry talent Manage photo budgets, by individual shoots, as well as by issue, and communicate regularly with Accounting and the Managing Editor's office regarding payments Ensure image rights Manage the magazine's image server, and work closely with CN Archives to organize and store all published files and images Requirements: Minimum of 5-7 years experience required Established industry contacts (photographers, stylists, agents, stock agencies, etc.) Strong communication skills and professional demeanor at all times Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor Thorough and resourceful, with exceptional organizational skills Ability to handle multiple projects and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment Knowledge and/or interest in the areas of design and architecture Strong visual aesthetic and a conceptual thinker Fluent in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office Must be willing to be "on call" evenings and weekends, as needed, during high-profile photo shoots, etc.
