ESPN the Magazine: Associate Art Director - Infographics

  • Job Description:
    The Associate Art Director will lead the execution of graphic packages for ESPN the Magazine in print and in the digital space

    • Design smart, innovative features for each issue, primarily graphics-heavy packages and presentations for both print and digital.
    • Meet with editors and other key stakeholders to plan ahead for future issues.
    • Ideate and promote visually-driven content.
    • Proactively work with Photo, Edit, and Production to ensure that deadlines are met and that the close of assigned pages are on target.
    • Independently manage special projects as needed from concept to execution - redesigns, special interest publications, company initiatives, etc.
    • Be responsible for assigned pages until the last stage of ship - paying close attention to detail during production and art check.
    • Collaborate with digital counterparts to translate print into web and social space.
    • Have an awareness of and a curiosity around industry trends and current technology.
    • Recognize the Magazine's role within the larger ESPN ecosystem and how it aligns with company branding, strategy, resources, business partnerships, etc.
    • Continually seek out and discover new talent who can elevate the ambition of the Magazine. Maintain good relationships with existing photographers, illustrators, designers.
    • Actively help in recruiting efforts for the Magazine.
    • Be informed of sports news and of the sports calendar. Practice sound news judgment and understand design's role in effective storytelling.

    Basic Qualifications
    •  Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Exceptional knowledge in graphic design, typography, data visualization, and illustration assignment.
    • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.
    • Working knowledge of print production.
    • A minimum of 7 years experience in editorial design.
    • A minimum of 1 year project management experience.
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
    •  Ability to multitask and oversee diverse range of projects.
    • Working knowledge of sports.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • An understanding of responsive web development.
    • Ability to code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

    Required Education: 
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    Preferred Education: 
    • Bachelor's degree
