    Chicago magazine is seeking a dynamic Design Director to lead the visual direction of this 44-year-old brand across all platforms: an award-winning monthly print magazine, a popular and fast-growing website, and a recently relaunched tablet app. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-paced and creative environment, leading a sharp and talented staff to create powerful visual content in a city full of great stories. Responsibilities: •Lead visual direction of brand across all platforms, as well as take lead role in visual branding as it relates to all marketing and promotional materials. •Lead four-person design staff (including photo editor), coaching their development and creative growth. In addition, hire and develop freelance talent as needed. •Develop and set standards for photography, illustration and graphic storytelling. •Manage freelance and photography budgets. •Take active role in brand strategy and growth •Lead development of any and all new products as they relate to brand expansion.

  • Job Requirements: •10 + years experience as proven leader and design innovator in an editorial environment, including both print and digital. Consumer magazine experience strongly preferred. •Expert communicator with a passion for forging strong relationships with editors •Big picture thinker who is also obsessed with the smallest details •Idea and concept generator who thrives in a highly collaborative environment •Significant experience managing a staff as well as managing budgets •Well-developed relationships with photographers and illustrators on a national level, and keen ability to spot and grow new talent •Ability to think strategically about the brand and brand growth •Problem-solver who embraces tight deadlines and works gracefully under pressure •Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite
