    On-the-job responsibilities include...

    -working with the Creative/Design Director on a daily basis to maintain the look of the magazine while continuing to push the brand's visual identity

    -working with editors to visually illustrate and strengthen their ideas throughout the magazine

    -handling a story start to finish" taking an editorial brief and working with editors to thumbnail a story, presenting styling direction, preparing styling briefs for food and prop stylists (both in and out of the house), on-set art direction, and final story design

    -helping to manage our team of designers, including helping to nurture their creative talents

    -working with the Photo Director and Assistant Photo Editor to plan and execute photo shoots

    -can do spot illustrations

    -have an awareness of pop culture and current trends

    -practice hand-lettering on the side

  • Job Requirements: We’re looking for someone who… has at least 7 years experience in on-set art direction; approaches from a visual and editorial perspective and finds ways to tell them graphically in unconventional ways; is able to generate original visual concepts (we can all Pinterest); is a strong visual packager; creates story concepts, sketches and thumbnails; has strong typographic skills; has an eye for color corrections and is able to help film translate as beautifully as it should from digital to print format; can develop and nurture our roster of contributing illustrators and can comfortably commission story illustrations; has an awareness of magazine photographers and stylists; can remain calm and professional under stressful situations.
