  • Job Description:
    The Atlantic is looking for a talented Designer to join the award-winning editorial team. The ideal candidate will create layouts for The Atlantic Magazine's department pages, research photography, commission and create original illustrations and graphics for and help maintain artist contracts and invoices. This person is a problem solver and communicator who can collaborate one-on one or with teams, who can roll with shifting priorities, and who keeps up with and helps maintain the visual standards of The Atlantic across platforms. Position in Brief The Designer position reports to the Creative Director of The Atlantic. Primary responsibilities include editorial page layout for The Atlantic's front-of-book and back-of-book pages. Working closely with the editors, research editors and copy editors at The Atlantic throughout the production process. Working with the Art and Production Departments to produce and ship each issue. The Designer also works with the digital editors at to create in-house illustrations and charts for web articles.

  • Job Requirements: Attributes Particular to this Position: - Strong design aesthetic comprising best practices in typography and layout. Intensely interested in magazine design, typography, illustration and photography trends. - Experience creating editorial pages. - A solid understanding of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop (Creative Suite). After Effects experience is a plus. - Excellent communication skills: can brainstorm with a group, articulate ideas and tease out feedback from colleagues. - Top-notch organizational skills: can prioritize tasks and workflow efficiently, while being flexible when collaborating with members of multiple teams. - Experience specific to media or publishing is a plus.
