Photography Director, Entertainment Weekly

  • Job Description:
Entertainment Weekly is looking for a Photography Director who is a strong leader and is excited at the prospect of leading a team and exploring new opportunites and ideas. We are looking for a highly collaborative individual who is a fantastic communicator and enjoys new challenges.

    Position: Photography Director
    City: New York
    Duration: Full Time

    You will:

Manage a team of photo editor for multiple platforms
Oversee the budget for research and original photography
Pitch and produce top-quality photo shoots
Work in conjunction with the edit and art teams to make a great editorial product
Hire photographers to help bring a fresh voice to the ever-evolving brand

    You are:

A Proven Leader: Yes, you love to roll up your sleeves and work in a new, uncertain environment. That said, you're not unfamiliar leading teams to conquer the difficult challenges that a weekly magazine has. You look out for your staff and their well-being--it takes a village.

Collaborative: You have a flexible, open approach to work. You thrive building clear efficiencies in unstructured environments. You approach your career like a journey, taking on big challenges with zero ego - and crushing it. You're energized by working in the frenetic atmosphere of a weekly magazine and the lightening quick decisions that have to be made as part of it.

Communicative: Peers, bosses and direct reports flock to you for your dynamism and clarity. Your crystal clear approach to communication is immediately recognized, whether you're delivering a presentation to shape the strategic direction of an investment, hosting a meeting or sending a simple email. Because things move so quickly, open communication is paramount to success.
Organized: This is a weekly magazine with constant demands that requires staffers, and especially managers, to multitask.

A Lover of Pop Culture: Whether it is Movies, TV, Music or Books, you're a fan of something. This is the lifeblood of the brand--we're all devourers of popular (and unpopular) culture so it's important to have an active interest in the content.

A Platform Adventurer: The print magazine is just one piece of the brand. You have a desire to make great photographic content not just for the magazine, but for the site, for videos, for apps, for VR, for whatever the future is.
