Graphic Designer (Editorial/Print)

IndexUniverse, an international financial media company, is looking for a talented Graphic Designer (Editorial/Print) to join our team in San Francisco's, Financial District. You will be joining a small design team consisting of the Art Director/Design Manager in San Francisco, a Jr. Designer in Equator, and a Print Designer in Germany. One of your main focuses will be magazine & newsletter redesign, design and layout. You will be working directly with the Managing Editor on a monthly publication, and will be responsible for its design production including: concepting, design execution, and final production. In addition, you will participate in the design and layout of a variety of print work including: media kits, advertising, corporate collateral, conference materials (we have at least 6 scheduled for this year), white papers and other projects as they arise. We are a small team, and you must enjoy jumping in on a variety of projects as needed. Candidate Profile: • Minimum of 3 years post-college magazine design experience • Superior magazine design standards, and enthusiasm for innovative, creative storytelling • Experience designing and branding a magazine, and developing its style guide • Thorough knowledge of print production process for magazines. • Experience doing your own print production and creating files ready for sending directly to printer • Modern, sophisticated approach to typography and page design. This job is based in Beijing, China. JOB SUMMARY: The Visual Director will work to develop the established visual identity of the magazine and all associated products and platforms. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the continued development of magazine, working with the Editor-in-Chief to develop all individual products. He or she will also be responsible for the regular operations of the magazine, as well as management and development of the art team. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: • Art directing and managing production of Caixin's main titles and their related products (mobile, iPad, etc.) during the regular weekly runs. Involves communicating with editors on how to interpret stories visually, overseeing and improving layouts, and ensuring quality of final product. • Providing creative input for new projects, or improvements on existing products, especially with regard to visual identity. • Developing and monitoring the house style and use of product logos, to maintain consistency across the brand. • Defining design and production standards. • Managing design team, including developing and assessing current staff, or recruiting new staff as necessary. • Recommending freelance designers, photographers and illustrators, and setting policies for working with them.

Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine is seeking a graphic design student for a spring internship in our Art Department. Candidates should have a passion for magazine design, be well-organized, dedicated, and enthusiastic. Duties will include: updating layouts, scanning art, maintaining walls, assisting in design, attending photo shoots, and handling some administrative tasks. Working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is required. Some tasks may include working with our digital team, so basic knowledge of digital and multi-media formats is a plus. If you have illustration skills or icon design experience, that is also a plus. Applicants must be available 3 days a week (Mon, Tues, Wed) to work in our SoHo New York office.
