Design Production Associate, Martha Stewart Weddings

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking a Design Production Associate to join the Weddings team for a short-term 6-week total freelance contract. Under the guidance of the Managing Editor and Design Director, and working along with the Art and Edit teams, the candidate will play an integral part in the workflow and production of the print and iPad versions of the magazine. Responsibilities: Working with art directors and editors to tighten layouts and type on both print and iPad editions for release of art and composed pages to outside vendors. Work with Design Production team to regulate procedural standards and quality measures. Convert print layouts to iPad format, with careful attention to style sheets. Setup an array of interactive elements to work on the iPad (including but not limited to links and multi-state objects). Test iPad interactive functionality and create folios for publishing, Requirements: 5+ years' production experience in a magazine environment. iPad production experience is required Expertise in InDesign CS5. Working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator to correctly assemble electronic files and trouble shoot any problems so that they retain their integrity. Working knowledge of the K4 system is helpful. Must be skilled at tightening layouts, linking images, and creating articles. Should have and meticulous type skills: including kerning and ragging.

Freelance Art Director, Whole Living Magazine

Whole Living magazine is seeking a Freelance Art Director to work as a part of the team, to participate in the design evolution of FOB sections, and overall design of editorial pages. We are looking for a creative individual who has experience with editorial design navigation and should have a sophisticated design sense, strong grasp of typography, great attention to detail, and possess the ability to shape a project from conception to completion. This individual should excel at working both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment. We will also be creating an tandem iPad version of the issue during the same period and are looking for individuals who have had experience with tablet publishing, and how the printed page gets translated to a digital platform.

Digital Imaging Specialist

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking a Digital Imaging Specialist for the Publishing Group to work on our Print titles as well as our Digital Apps, if necessary. The Specialist will be responsible for color correcting, retouching, manipulating, and trafficking digital images and other related digital assets. The Specialist will also provide the same services for other publishing projects and departments as directed. The Specialist must be able to translate mark-ups on digital proofs to actual retouching, and have the ability to turn work around quickly on tight deadlines.

Managing Editor, Books and Special Projects Team

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia seeks a Managing Editor for the Books and Special Projects team. Under the guidance of the Editorial Director, the Managing Editor will set, oversee and enforce all deadlines related to each stage of the production of books and special issues for the edit, art, and production departments. Responsibilities: - Set proof and closing schedules - Manage flow of art and edit and ensure on-time delivery of all materials for press production - Liaise with the managing and production editorial staffs at book publisher and other outside partners as needed - Maintain and update lineups and editorial calendar - Help manage editorial workflow in department. Has final responsibility for grammar and consistency of language - Manage all proofreading-related activities and ensure edit changes are made as approved - Maintain style guide - Direct and manage the research department. Has final responsibility for accuracy of facts - Hire freelancers as needed - Serve as line editor/top editor as necessary

Martha Stewart Living Editorial Crafts Internship

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking an Intern for the Editorial Crafts Department of Martha Stewart Living Magazine. This creative position will be responsible for assisting with tasks including organizing, shopping, crafting, sewing, and prepping photo shoots. The ideal candidate should have excellent crafting skills, be incredibly resourceful and comfortable traveling in and around New York City. This department develops all aspects of the crafts content for Martha Stewart Living magazine. This position is an opportunity to learn about the workings of an editorial team in a very creative environment. Interns are involved with the research and development of new craft projects and "how-to" content, the photo shoot and photo styling process, and the organizational aspects of working in a busy studio environment. We are open to candidates from all types of artistic backgrounds. Creativity, good craftsmanship skills and attention to detail are most important. However, candidates with machine and/or hand sewing skills or hand knitting skills are encouraged to apply. Please submit a resume and a URL with work samples or a PDF portfolio. Interns should be available to work 2 or more days a week in our West Chelsea office between September and December 2011. We are willing to work around a school schedule and start and end dates are flexible. Decorating and Homekeeping Intern - Fall 2011

MSLO is currently seeking a 2011 fall intern for the Decorating and Homekeeping Departments to assist editors in story development, including online research and showroom visits; work on photo shoots, including helping producers prep; and perform office duties, including filing, organizing, and phone work.
