Ensure that overall look and feel of the brand products is appealing to both consumer and advertising audiences. • Assist in shaping editorial direction. Collaborate with editor, style director executive editor, and managing editor to generate editorial content mix, relying heavily on brand awareness and brand filter. Work closely with editors and the art department to reinforce brand mission through story design. • Manage and mentor members of the art and photo departments and freelance designers. Coach them in all things "coastal"; share resources; and help them find solutions when questions and challenges arise. Serve as a first line of approval for their work product. • Design and art direct content. Design all covers and certain features; art direct photo shoots when needed. • Facilitate communication. Help serve as a liaison between editorial, art, and photo departments. • Ensure consistency of brand design across all sections and platforms. • Know the landscape. Monitor competitors for ideas and talent. You have: • 7-10 years of art direction experience at a magazine, catalogue, or other relevant business • The ability to navigate adversity and anticipate issues before they arise • Clear communication skills, a detail-oriented approach, consistent execution and overall reliability • A passion for what you do; your enthusiasm for your work is contagious • A deep understanding of and finely honed filter for the brand

Assistant Designer

The editorial art department at Cooking Light--the country's largest epicurean magazine--seeks a passionate and energetic Assistant Designer to join our creative team in Birmingham, AL. Production Coordinator - Cooking Light Posting Job Description Cooking Light is looking for a full-time editorial production coordinator with three years minimum experience working in publication editorial, other print, and tablet production. Will independently manage production of magazine's tablet editions and work as part of the print magazine production team. Candidate must be technologically savvy, detail oriented, well organized, and highly collaborative, with an editorial sensibility and sharp critical thinking skills. Must be able to manage and enforce deadlines throughout print production and tablet production cycles. Tablet: Work as an independent production unit within Cooking Light in partnership with Tablet Designer to create tablet and mobile phone versions of the print magazine. Duties include: •Create and implement tablet-edition production schedules with minimal supervision; will work closely with tablet designer(s), copy editor(s), and off-site imaging team. •Collaborate with tablet designer(s) and editor(s) to plan, implement, and organize bonus/exclusive tablet content. •Work with Consumer Marketing to produce tablet-related promotional assets. •Work with tablet designer(s) and imaging staff to request color corrections and review/correct tablet editions for consistency, accuracy, and functionality. •Collaborate with and digital staff to acquire, organize, and implement any necessary Digimarc- or tablet-related URLs. Print: •Assist in managing workflow of InCopy and InDesign files throughout production cycle(s). • Assist in creating and monitoring production schedules. •Serve as liaison to color separator during tablet production and assist as liaison to separator and printer during print production. •Coordinate creation and placement of all Digimarc watermark files into hi-res images; check functionality for all Digimarc watermarks. •Create, update, and manage network server files and WoodWing dossiers. •Create and update InDesign document templates, place text and images, maintain style sheets, prepare files for separator.

He or she will be creating dynamic, fresh layouts for all sections of the magazine, and assigning illustration. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of magazine editorial experience.
