The Senior Designer will provide design and print production services for UCLA Magazine and other institutional publications and marketing materials developed and produced by the Office of Marketing and Special Events.
You will produce projects and campaigns ranging from a quarterly magazine to brochures, mailers, Invitations, programs and other materials for clients including UCLA External Affairs, campus administration, the College of Letters and Science and professional schools. While the emphasis is on print, some campaigns have a web/ email component as well. The Senior Designer will employ graphic and typographic design techniques, primarily using Adobe InDesign and related software tools, to create effective materials from concept through completion and adhere to current graphic standards and consistency.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of graphic-design principles and formats, knowledge of typography and effective use of type and working knowledge of paper stocks, inks, varnishes, and their suitability for each project. Working knowledge of printing and production processes to determine how best to prepare and coordinate each job is necessary. The successful candidate will have working knowledge of Macintosh systems and related hardware and software, including extensive experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Basic proofreading and editing skills sufficient to spot typos, suggest appropriate ways to shorten headlines or add subheads, captions and pull quotes is necessary.
