Photo Agency Internship

Day to day duties include, but are not limited to: Updating contacts, filing paperwork, updating the website, changing portfolios, preparing fed-ex, office errands ect. You will have an inside look at how a photo agency is ran and may have the ability to be on set with select photographers for the agency. Must have a car, great attitude and a willingness to learn.

Graphic Designer, Variety

Variety, the premier entertainment resource, is looking for a full-time Graphic Designer/Page Layout Artist to join our busy art department. This position will be responsible for designing and building creative display sections as well as producing accurate and clean, formatted news pages. The Designer will be part of a team that conceives and provides illustrative graphics, charts, logos etc. using Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. This person needs to be able to process, retouch and cut out digital art for print. The ideal candidate will have experience working for a daily newspaper and will be able to work quickly under the pressure of deadlines. This person will thrive in a fast-paced and often hectic environment. This is a full-time, regular position based out of the Variety offices in Los Angeles, CA.

Art Production Associate

The Hollywood Reporter, based in Los Angeles, is seeking an Art Production Associate. Job duties: Input and style text Create assignments in K4 Make art and type corrections on all rounds Ensure hi-res art is in the layout Update and improve templates Distribute printouts to the appropriate staff members Maintain the mockup wall You will work closely with the managing editor, copy chief and creative director to complete layouts according to a tight schedule. Must be able to work with all departments to problem solve including prepress department, photo, art and edit. The ideal candidate will be able to juggle assignments. You should be extremely detail oriented and able to work quickly.

Associate Art Director

The Hollywood Reporter, a weekly magazine based in Los Angeles has a position available for an Associate Art Director. Job duties include: designing all types of pages (front of book as well as features), commissioning illustrations, giving color-correction instructions to the pre-press team. Expertise in infographics would be ideal. You will be working closely with creative director and editors to see pages through from idea to completion.

Art Director, UCLA

The Art Director leads the in-house design team responsible for the design and production of the quarterly UCLA Magazine, as well as design projects and marketing campaigns for clients on campus. Projects include invitations and brochures, newspaper and magazine ads, admissions packets, signs and banners, and other marketing materials. While the emphasis is on print, some campaigns include a web or email component. On the magazine, the Art Director will work with the Design Director and Senior Designer to conceptualize and commission photography and illustration, design stories, and oversee the entire pre-press and proofing process. Successful candidates should have at least five years experience with the day-to-day workflow of magazines and significant hands-on experience with art directing photo shoots and illustration assignments. Also requires a sophisticated mastery of typography and graphic design techniques, primarily using Adobe Creative Suite on the Macintosh platform, to create and supervise the creation of effective materials. 

UCLA Marketing & Special Events - Senior Designer

The Senior Designer will provide design and print production services for UCLA Magazine and other institutional publications and marketing materials developed and produced by the Office of Marketing and Special Events.

You will produce projects and campaigns ranging from a quarterly magazine to brochures, mailers, Invitations, programs and other materials for clients including UCLA External Affairs, campus administration, the College of Letters and Science and professional schools. While the emphasis is on print, some campaigns have a web/ email component as well. The Senior Designer will employ graphic and typographic design techniques, primarily using Adobe InDesign and related software tools, to create effective materials from concept through completion and adhere to current graphic standards and consistency.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of graphic-design principles and formats, knowledge of typography and effective use of type and working knowledge of paper stocks, inks, varnishes, and their suitability for each project. Working knowledge of printing and production processes to determine how best to prepare and coordinate each job is necessary. The successful candidate will have working knowledge of Macintosh systems and related hardware and software, including extensive experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Basic proofreading and editing skills sufficient to spot typos, suggest appropriate ways to shorten headlines or add subheads, captions and pull quotes is necessary. Continued employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation.

Junior Designer

The Hollywood Reporter, based in Los Angeles, is seeking a freelance junior designer immediately. Job duties include: designing department pages in the weekly magazine, designing for the website and ipad and helping with the general maintenance of the art and photo department. The ideal candidate should be hard-working with a great attitude. Occasional late nights can be expected since this is a weekly news-magazine. Candidate should be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. No phone calls please.

The Hollywood Reporter's new weekly magazine is seeking an Art Director. The position reports to the Creative Director and the position is in Los Angeles. The ideal candidate will have editorial experience as well as online experience. Ipad experience a plus. Job duties include: designing pages, designing for the website, giving color-correction instructions to the pre-press team, working closely with Creative Director and editors to see pages through from idea to completion. Candidate must have experience with print production and have worked for a professional magazine. Should be proficient in Adobe In Design, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. K4 experience would be a plus. Must be fast, hard-working and capable of juggling multiple projects. Must have a BFA with a major in Graphic Design or the equivalent.
