Creative Director, Southern Living Magazine

We're looking for an accomplished Creative Director to lead the art and photo teams at Southern Living, one of the country's most iconic and beloved brands. You don't have to be a son or daughter of the South, but you must have a sincere affinity for our distinct culture and devoted mass audience of nearly 16 million. In addition to the usual requirements--an unforgettable portfolio, a mastery of the latest design programs, and extensive experience directing photo shoots at far-flung locations--it's essential that you've run a large department and can juggle the fast-paced demands of a monthly title that publishes numerous regional variations. On any given day, you might be shooting a cover, designing feature layouts, developing ideas for new columns, reviewing chapters for one of our dozen or so annual books, advising on collateral material for licensees, and managing the myriad of creative types who work here at our headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. It helps to have a passion for one or all of our core topics (decorating, gardening, cooking, and traveling), but most of all we want to see how your love of graphic design will translate into our pages as we look forward to a new decade of growth and influence at the heart of Southern life.

Cover Art Director

The American Conservative is an anti-right, sometimes anti-Republican traditionalist magazine that promotes ideas over ideology and principles over party. (Yes, it's a lonely place) We are going through an editorial and design makeover. Our inside pages are -- and will continue to be -- templated, black & white, almost entirely text. So we need our covers to reach out and grab a reader by the lapels, if any of our readers have lapels. Our models are the old Ramparts and Milton Glazer New York covers.
