Web Designer for Media Non-Profit

Cinema Politica, the world's largest campus-based documentary screening project, is looking for a web designer. Our current site is now two years old, which of course is more like 8 years old in web-reality, and we are ready for a change. We have a web-geek to do the back-end (which is Drupal) but we need a creative, media-savvy designer who can design a new site for us that foregrounds our media and makes it generally more sexy and more user-friendly.

Senior Designer/Creative Director

Job Description This temporary-to-full-time-position is responsible for the design and management of all University of West Georgia (UWG) print communication, including advertisements, brochures, banners, merchandise and other items. This includes management of the design work of all direct-reports and interns within the design unit. The Senior Designer will drive the aesthetics, visual design, and/or layout of all presentation materials as well as web-based communications for clients. He/she will also safeguard UWG's brand identity guidelines and monitor all logo and wordmark usage. Responsibilities include: -Manage/art-direct creative projects from concept to completion and translate marketing objectives into creative strategies. Be highly effective in forwarding the brand look and style through all creative pieces. -Along with the marketing account manager, serve as the creative front-person in client meetings, and as key member of the marketing team. Create visual presentations to communicate and illustrate concepts, and present them to the client - Conduct trend research - Manage and enforce the identity guidelines for all UWG publications and merchandise - Manage and direct the UCM design team and manage/monitor the communication of team members with clients, suppliers, manufacturers, printers, colleagues and management -Manage the creative work of outside advertising agencies or other creative agencies - Provide documentation & other materials to support creative concepts -Train and direct team members in creative solutions. The Senior Designer / Creative Director is responsible for designing sophisticated and engaging visual multimedia and interactive stories and supervising the work of others, staff and freelance. More specifically, the Senior Designer will develop and refine visual design concepts, participate in web interactive concept definition, present her or his work to different teams, participate in critiques, manage production, and align himself or herself with the company's overall goal of creating high-end interactive multimedia stories. The ideal candidate will be have strong visual design skills, design research skills, an innovative approach that breeds new thinking, a strong understanding of graphic design (type, color, layout, composition, motion graphics), a current understanding of the Web evolution, trends and current approaches, an understanding of Web technology, and an ability to work collaboratively. A deep appreciation for great interactive design and a good sense of humor are required. Duties & Responsibilities The Senior Designer will: Conduct Design Research Participate in conducting trend, design, competitive, and qualitative research and presenting relevant findings to peers and managers, gather relevant data and capably represent his/her point of view. Create Initial Design Explorations Develop directions that reflect new, fresh and exciting approaches, a clear organization of information, and the willingness to take risks. The senior designer is expected to develop a broad range of interactive stories, and present his/her work with both confidence and adaptability. Working quickly and iteratively is a must; SRM is a very-fast paced environment. The designer should have an understanding of information architecture so that information and interactivity is incorporated in a clear and engaging way for the user. Refine Designs and Present them Create rapid and compelling prototypes of interactive stories using paper, images, Flash and other tools. Apply Problem Solving Skills The designer must have strong problem solving skills and be able to overcome barriers that stand in his/her way. A 'can do' attitude is a must; the designer will constantly need to find ways to overcome challenges and solve problems. Create Static and Animated Solutions Employ an understanding of Flash, CSS, DHTML and other client-side design and technology solutions in order to create innovative and compelling content that leads the industry in engagement, collaboration and fun-factor. Present Must present his/her work well and defend it in both small and large meetings. Strong persuasive skills and an ability to influence are required. Flexibility and Collaboration Must be flexible, and challenge-oriented, able to excel in a fast-paced environment.
