Scripps College is seeking competitive bids for the design of our college magazine, which publishes three times per year (fall, winter, spring). The deadline for this RFP is October 22, 2014. Our plan is to select a firm that will be prepared to begin working with us on the spring magazine, which publishes in March.

Los Angeles Magazine Art Department Intern

We are working with a great printer and distributor who produces most of the top independent magazines in the US and Canada. We are seeking a designer to assist with all facets of the magazine design and pre-production. The ideal candidate would be located in Palm Springs area, but we know that the odds of this are (very) slim, and therefore we are open to considering individuals located elsewhere in Southern California (Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, etc.) who can work remotely the majority of the time with the ability to come to Palm Springs for periodic meetings/workdays. Video Researcher (Freelance)

The Video Researcher will play a key role as a dedicated resource for finding and maintaining video/film. This role is perfect for someone with a keen eye for photography/film and excellent organization skills. Design Intern

FLAUNT Magazine is seeking a graphic design student for a non-paid, college-credit internship in its Los Angeles-based Art Department. The intern will assist in the daily workflow of the magazine. Duties will include: updating layouts, maintaining layout wall, minor imaging work, and some design. Candidates should have a strong interest in magazine publishing, good working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. A commitment of 2 days a week is required, from 10 am to 6 pm (flexible).

Design/Editing Internship, Variety

Associate Art Director

The Hollywood Reporter, a weekly magazine based in Los Angeles has a position available for an Associate Art Director. Job duties include: designing all types of pages (front of book as well as features), commissioning illustrations, giving color-correction instructions to the pre-press team. Expertise in infographics would be ideal. You will be working closely with creative director and editors to see pages through from idea to completion.

Art Director, UCLA

The Art Director leads the in-house design team responsible for the design and production of the quarterly UCLA Magazine, as well as design projects and marketing campaigns for clients on campus. Projects include invitations and brochures, newspaper and magazine ads, admissions packets, signs and banners, and other marketing materials. While the emphasis is on print, some campaigns include a web or email component. On the magazine, the Art Director will work with the Design Director and Senior Designer to conceptualize and commission photography and illustration, design stories, and oversee the entire pre-press and proofing process. Successful candidates should have at least five years experience with the day-to-day workflow of magazines and significant hands-on experience with art directing photo shoots and illustration assignments. Also requires a sophisticated mastery of typography and graphic design techniques, primarily using Adobe Creative Suite on the Macintosh platform, to create and supervise the creation of effective materials.
