Interview Follow-up: "I'm Taking Andy With Me"

In a rare-for-these-days bit of detail, Glenn O'Brien talked with Fashion Week Daily about his departure, along with Creative Directors M/M (Paris), from Interview on Monday and Fabien Baron's return to the mag as sole Editorial Director. Kind of a don't-miss piece if you haven't read it already... seems a bit like a 70s-throwback kind of big personality event, a little  à la Mailer-Vidal on the Dick Cavett show. Or, we're just looking to stir things up -- but Mr. O'Brien himself says, "It's like a Greek tragedy. Like watching a company going insane, instead of a person."

Will be good to see what is about to happen there...

Interview: Changing Things For Themselves

Perhaps the goal at Interview is to live up to the Warhol quote, "They always say that time changes things, but you have to change them yourself" -- WWD carries the story this morning about yet another shake-up (tweak? reinvention? refresh? We have no idea what euphemism they're trending toward these days) on the masthead: Fabien Baron is back after his six-months away, this time as sole Editorial Director (Glenn O'Brien given the goodbye on Monday), and rumors have it that former Creative Director Karl Templar will be returning as well. Two-months-new Art Director Stella Bugbee, formerly the DD at now-shuttered Domino, is said to have resigned.

Over at Rodale, the company that will do anything to get you to show off (or just acknowledge?) your abs (we're just holding out for when they personally send a trainer out with every subscription), some major news to share about our friends in the art & photo departments at Men's Health, stemming from the newly created Men's Health and Women's Health Books division: George Karabotsos, longtime DD for the magazine, has been named Design Director of Men's Health Books. After a brief foray into the world of book publishing, I have been lured back to magazine-land. I'm now the Senior Group Art Director of the McGraw-Hill Construction Group of architecture and construction trade publications. The magazines I'll be overseeing include Architectural Record; the newsweekly Engineering News-Record; a magazine about green architecture, GreenSource; and a new startup for executives, HQ, built on the premise that good design is good business.
Victory, magazines.

Josh Klenert, New CD for Clear Channel Online

Josh Klenert who's been more in-tune with the Hot 100 than most of us as the CD at Billboard, is making the jump from, er, paper to pixels...

From the man himself:
Out of the blue, I was offered a position I couldn't refuse.

I will be making the jump to online as Creative Director for Clear Channel Online Music & Radio. This is a newly created position, where I will be responsible for user experience and our general creative direction for web design and video.

Kerry Robertson, New DD at Oprah

We've heard it from 2 different sources, so we think this is safe to run with: Kerry Robertson, will be the new DD at O, the Oprah Magazine, with new(-ish) editor Susan Reed. This is a familiar working relationship, as both had most recently held the same titles at now-shuttered Golf for Women.

Stepping up to fill the DD spot at Complex is Tim Leong, previously the Deputy AD with the magazine, SPD judging über-hero, and Editor-in-Chief at Comic Foundry. God, Tim, you're such a slacker.

O, My Goodness.

Carla Frank, the founding Design Director at O, The Oprah Magazine (one of the most successful magazine launches ever -- did you know?) has left the magazine in search of exciting new projects, a spankin' new website, and maybe, finally, a little time to breathe. Sounds fantastic, lady!

Taking the reigns at O for a time will be Bob Newman, who had been consulting at Cottage Living. (Also the proprietor of a sparkly website... hmm.)
