Lynsey Addario's Photo Blog from Libya: "It's What I Do"

On March 16th, photographer Lynsey Addario and three other journalists on assignment in Libya for The New York Times were captured and held captive for five days. Over on the Times' Lens photo blog she has an extensive gallery of photos from her work during this period and some thoughts (different than the personal account reported earlier) about what it means for photographers, women especially, to continue working in war zones:

I will cover another war. I'm sure I will. It's what I do. It's important to show people what's happening. We have a unique access to what unfolds on the ground that helps our policymakers decide how to treat certain issues.

Meet your DJ - ERIC JOHNSON

When photographer Eric Johnson isn't busy photographing musicians such as R&B artist Maxwell or various Hollywood Directors by day, by night he can sometimes be found entertaining friends and out-goers by providing some of the grooviest of tunes with his turntable skills. Mark Seliger: He Always Gets His Picture

A few weeks back at the Lucie Awards at Alice Tully Hall, the Lucie Foundation celebrated photographer Mark Seliger with their award for Achievement in Portraiture. Presenting the award to Seliger was his longtime collaborator and friend, Fred Woodward. We're honored to share Fred's presentation here:

I never knew Irving Penn. But I'm going to miss him. He was a constant, important presence in my life for many years.

New Favorite Magazine: FOAM

I'm afraid I'm a little late to the party on this one but Foam: International Photography Magazine based out of Amsterdam is simply amazing.  I was lucky enough to come across it at the NY Photo Fesitval in Dumbo--directed to it by my pal Ryan Mesina in the Real Simple Photo Department.  We were both instant fans.  Each specially themed issue feels like you've stumbled into a little photo gallery on a city street that is filled with gems the likes of which you haven't seen before.  … MORE
