Save the Date:

Next Pub Crawl is 9/30

We're still in summer-mode (can you tell by our not-so-active posting lately?), but things here at SPD-Student Headquarters are starting to kick into high gear. We'll be posting the first of THREE galleries of top designs from our Show and Tell Juried Show tomorrow, but for today? Mark your calendars for an all-time favorite event...

This year's one and only Pub(lications) Crawl will be happening Friday, September 30 here in NYC. It typically starts at 9:30am and goes through about 4pm. We'll be posting all the details and the participating magazines by the end of the month, but in the meantime, save the date.

And if you're within a train, bus or car ride's distance of us, we highly suggest you consider making the trip ... it's a truly rare opportunity to get a first-hand look at the art and design departments at some top-notch magazines.

Need some convincing? Check out a past attendee's feelings on the event after the jump:

"The Pub Crawl exceeded my expectations. I was pleasantly surprised by the art directors/designers' openness and excitement in welcoming us into their workspace. Visiting the publications made me realize that office size doesn't matter; what matters is a person's passion for design and ability to communicate information through a layout."

University of Maryland student Patti Look traveled north to be with us at 2010's event and thought it was definitely worth the trip:
"I learned a lot about the magazine industry and how it's run. People and The New York Times Magazine are such high-quality publications. I hope that SPD continues to put on events like this one. It's not everyday that I get to participate in the New York design scene and I'm glad to have taken part."
So add September 30 to your calendars now, and be sure to check back at the end of the month on Tuesday, August 30th when registration opens to sign up. Until then, enjoy what little is left of your summer!
