SPD:  What is your favorite inspirational site?
FRANCES:  Pinterest. It's like crack to me. I've also found leading an interesting life to be the very best source of inspiration. Put down the gadgets and get dirty in this crazy big world.  Travel. Meet interesting people. Go to new places in the city. Visit museums, art galleries, theater. It all goes into the "soup" for me.

SPD:  What are you currently working on?
FRANCES:  I am writing a piece on the tabletop market which I covered last week for a website, consulting on a new food magazine coming out in 2014 and developing a new look for a home decor catalog who hired me to style their next shoot. I love the diversity.

SPD:  When you have creative block, what do you do?
FRANCES:  Get out of the city. Nature always settles me. Sometimes we can get in overload mode here, so escaping for a day (or three) resets my compass.
