All-About-Tablet-Design Event TONIGHT!

If you haven't already bought your ticket (SPD Student Members: you get in free, but you gotta reserve your spot!) for tonight's "Magazines & Tablets: What's Working and What's Not" panel discussion event, advance sales are now closed but you can buy one at the door tonight.

And as further enticement, we'll be raffling off TWO tablet design courses from panelist Joseph Caserto! One is "Create Your Own iPad & Android Publications" worth $129 and the other is "Adobe Digital Publishing Suite for Beginners" worth $69. Both are awesome resources for students and professionals, whether you've already got some tablet experience or not. We'll also be offering all attendees a huge discount on both courses.

Tablet Design Q&A Event: April 3

Tablets are opening new horizons--and requiring new skills--for designers. Now interaction design is an important part of overall publication design. Mark Your Calendars: Spring Events

Now that our Student Design Competition is officially closed (thanks for all your great entries! we'll update you soon on the judging process), we're getting amped up for some great spring events ... so mark your calendars and watch us here and on Facebook to make sure you get all the details:

• MARCH 11 :: SPD-U @ NYC13 :: We're sponsoring several sessions at the Spring National College Media Convention here in Manhattan. If your school publication staff is attending, make sure you get to our presentations on Monday! If your school isn't, you can still attend on your own by purchasing a day pass. Get all the details here and if you're interested in buying a day pass, email us at spdstudentoutreach@gmail.com.

• APRIL 3 :: Speaker Panel Event on Tablet Design :: Curious about all those tablet versions of magazines? This speaker event will try to fill you in on all the various ways magazines are being published digitally. Look for more details to come soon!

• APRIL 10 :: Portfolio Reviews :: Whether you've got your portfolio practically done, or just have a pile of printouts of your work, bring what you've got and our awesome group of publication art directors will check it out and give you tips and feedback on how to make it better. Just in time for graduation for you seniors, but all student levels are welcome! More details to come.

SPD-U@CMA: A Day of Design, March 11

Spring fever has already begun here at SPD-U headquarters as we gear up for a busy spring. First up, of course, is our March 4th deadline for the Student Design Competition (get the details here!). But then...

We've teamed up with the College Media Association once again and will be presenting a bunch of sessions at their Spring National College Media Convention. If you're a member of your college's newspaper, magazine, yearbook staff or other media group, then hopefully you're already coming! But if not, you can still come! Day passes are available which will give you access to the 4 awesome sessions we're presenting on Monday, March 11th, but also ALL of the convention's offerings that day. Read on for all the details.

Mark Your Calendars for Our Spring 2013 Events!

As you're planning your spring semester, we have some super-terrific events to keep in mind:

• First up is our 2013 Student Design Competition. The March 4th deadline is coming fast, so be sure to check out all the details and download the official rules and entry form here. We'll be posting some tips and frequently asked questions in the coming weeks, so if you have any questions you need answered, be sure to email us.

• We're participating in the College Media Association's National College Media Convention here in NYC on Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12. If your school's publication staff doesn't already attend, be sure to watch our blog here for details on how you can get tickets.

• We'll be hosting Portfolio Reviews in early April also here in NYC, exact date and details to be announced in the coming weeks.

And we have a whole lot more ... from more "Ask the Pros" posts (which will resume next week) to other events and competitions, follow us here and on our Facebook page to make sure you get the details as we announce them.

Get Your Red Hot Career Advice TONIGHT!

Our "Ask the Pros: Live!" Event is happening tonight at the Type Directors Club on W.36th St in Manhattan, and our amazing group of speakers are chock-full of great advice for you on how to get a job. Doors open at 6:30 and the event starts at 7.

Buy your ticket now for $10 using the form here (SPD Student Members are FREE!!). Pre-advance sales close at 5pm. After that, you can buy tickets at the door for $15 general admission (student members are still free).
