Tribute: September 2011 Archives

TIME's 9/11 Special Issue in Print, for the Tablet, on HBO

TIME magazine, like many others, has a special issue focusing on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 this week. More than any other magazine, though, TIME has dedicated not just the issue, but a special version of their iPad app, documentaries airing on HBO, CNN and other stations, and a hardcover book comprised of the interviews and photographs featured in the issue. From Editor Richard Stengel's letter opening the issue:

TIME has devoted nearly 100 covers to the events that came out of that fateful morning -- from the hunt for Osama bin Laden to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, from the anthrax scares to the controversies over Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, and ultimately to the rebuilding of the American spirit at home. As the 10th anniversary approached, we wanted to reflect on not just the memory of that day but also the defining moments of the 9/11 era.

9/11 Covers, Part 2: 2002 and 2006

To note the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, SPD will be posting a series of collections of magazine covers published around the event. This second batch is covers published in 2002 and 2006, on the six month, year, and five year anniversaries. If you've got additional covers from that time (or from later years), please let us know and we'll add them to the mix.
