What's Next?
Recently I started to look into Flash. Why flash? Well it seems to be the thing that everyone has on the tip of their tongue. Everybody is looking for Flash designers. So in self preservation I started looking in to it. What it does? How to use it? I am pretty clueless when it comes to these things. I started looking into classes and books and demos. Free trial downloads, tutorials, and best use and awards. After all if I'm going to try and learn I want to know what I'm shooting for.
Now to be totally honest I'm not really sure what Flash is or does. As I said I just started to look into this and really try to get a better understanding. But I did come across a fun website that shined a little light on what can be done with it. At producten.hema.nl the website is fun and entertaining. Useful? Not really sure as it is in another language. But check it out and see what I mean.
As what can only be described as Rube Goldberg inspired the site starts off with a cup falling over and rolling around on a page. A series of events occurs after this which takes you through the websites products. Ending in a party atmosphere with music and confetti. It's fun to watch and somewhat inspirational in what you can do with the program.
I call this little discovery my first step into the interactive world. After all without some inspiration I would not have the desire to learn.
Up next my search for the demo...

Robert,
THANKS so much for the link! When I was in Holland, I LOVED shopping at HEMA; it was full of wonderful, inexpensive, fun, colorful (and well designed) objects; the site totally captures its sprit and whimsey.
And I totally agree with you about the necessity for print designers to acquire web skills, including Flash.
I don't want to sound like a shill for CS4, but its new features make web & flash much easier with less coding; more automated, and layers instead of tables...just feels more familiar because the interfaces and tools look more like the ones we are familiar with in the print-based software. Good luck & keep us posted on your progress!
BTW there are tons of free tutorials at adobetv.com. It's a mixed bag in terms of quality and usefulness but there's a lot of good stuff there.
I'm actually familiar with this link because a couple of months ago a client of mine sent it to me wanting our agency to recreate something similar for them. I find it to be a bit gimmicky myself, but it did get me worried about my lack of familiarity with flash and animation design. It's good to hear I'm not alone!
My best advice would be to bite the bullet and get an account on lynda.com. Best way to learn a new program in my opinion.
Good luck!
