Job Description: The senior designer plays a critical role in conceptualizing and executing bold and consistent visual marketing materials and brand campaigns for The Washington Post and its journalists, products, initiatives, and events. This role is part of The Post’s newly formed brand marketing creative studio with a mission to establish a bold and consistent brand identity, and drive excitement about The Post amongst new and existing audiences.

Reporting to the Design Director, this person will be responsible for designing compelling and engaging marketing collateral across various touchpoints. In many cases, this role will manage the concept, design and execution of all creative for a full marketing campaign from start to finish. This role will contribute to the studio’s effort to design compelling creative that both supports the brand ethos, but also pushes the boundaries of the brand’s public perception. This role is based in either New York City or Washington D.C.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Design Director and rest of the brand marketing team to create boundary-pushing marketing creative for The Post and its people and products

  • Lead creative execution on full marketing campaigns from concept to final delivery

  • Collaborate closely with Design Director, Copy Director, Copywriter, Head of Brand Marketing, and Marketing Specialists to make visual concepts come to life to a wide range of internal clients (Newsroom, Subscriptions, Communications, etc.)

  • Participate in creative collaboration and regular alignment across The Post’s other design teams (News, Product, Sales)

  • Contribute to the brand marketing style guide and global style guide creation

  • Spearhead execution of new template builds

  • Develop and maintain a library of high-quality creative executions across platforms, stock imagery, templates, spec guidelines, demo videos, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Must include link to design portfolio for consideration

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts/Graphic Design/Visual Communications or commensurate experience

  • 7-8+ years as a Designer working with a creative team in Marketing, Advertising, Media or Publishing, preferably in an agency-like environment

  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, AfterEffects) and Working Knowledge of Figma
