Tova Diamond

tova diamond

Current job: Head of Brand Creative / The Washington Post

3 things you can’t live without: A support system that grounds me, people and places that energize and inspire me, and work that makes an impact (big or small) for those that see or consume it.

What’s your superpower? Identifying superpowers in others. I’m a dot connector, bringing creatives together in a way that has them play to their strengths.

What do you listen to while creating? When I need to just slow my swirling thoughts to focus, it's almost always Bon Iver. For a changeup, it might be something smooth and sultry like Leon Bridges or Olivia Dean. When I'm nearing deadline, however, it's a vibe shift: something chaotic and high-speed. Lately, that's been the main track off Justin Hurwitz' Babylon movie soundtrack or any Beyoncé' set list.

Favorite TV show: Of all-time? Veep. Some of the smartest, comedic writing and just an all-star cast of characters. I love rewatching with subtitles so I can catch every last line.

What (or who) inspires you? Visiting a new city in a new country always brings lots of new inspiration: the architecture, the art, the culture, the flavors, the lifestyle…!

Advice for young creatives? Sketch on paper. Print out your work. Touch grass. Live out loud!

What’s on your bucket list for the next year? Create something in a new medium.

Faith Stafford

FAITH STAFFORD

Current job: Senior Deputy Design Director / Los Angeles Times

3 things you can’t live without: My passport, queso, iphone apps.

What’s your superpower? Never losing sight of the big picture, and baking earl grey shortbread.

What do you listen to while creating? Either stone cold silence or Eminem at top volume.

Favorite TV show: Does F1 count?

What (or who) inspires you? My friends.

Advice for young creatives? Duplicate. Duplicate. Duplicate your layouts frequently as you're designing and experimenting. It lets you rapid fire try a bunch of things as they spring to mind. Then you can go back through to see what layouts, or elements, are working best to combine and refine from there.

What’s on your bucket list for the next year? Moving to a new apartment.

Inma Hortas

INMA HORTAS

Current job: Illustrator / inloho.com

3 things you can’t live without: I could live with very little, but messy sketchbooks, bright colours and dark chocolate make everything better.

What’s your superpower? Patience, perseverance and an evergreen student mindset, knowing what truly speaks to me.

What do you listen to while creating? Podcasts on illustration, psychology, nature and history for a relaxed pace, and absolute silence when I am in a hurry.

Favorite TV show: Futurama and Fleabag.

What (or who) inspires you? Empathy, generosity and sensitivity.

Advice for young creatives? For those who already have a voice, keep going, work for yourselves first, show up with purpose and magic will follow. For those who don’t, keep trying. Life is far more fulfilling when you truly care and have something of your own to say, a nurturing sense of purpose.

What’s on your bucket list for the next year? Putting myself first more often.

Kojo Boateng

KOJO BOATENG

Current job: Creative Director / PBS News Hour

3 things you can’t live without: A good nights sleep, my wife, good music.

What’s your superpower? Connecting good people together, spotting bullsh*t from a mile away (although, you will never know).

What do you listen to while creating? Mainly podcasts, reggae, old skool hiphop.

Favorite TV show: Currently Slow Horses, but I get nostalgic about classic British comedies like Only Fools and Horses.

What (or who) inspires you? Firstly, my wife...she's a rockstar! Also, people who live by a specific conviction or life path. It's inspiring to see people with a sense of freedom.

Advice for young creatives? Take creative risks. Start passively saving for your income for retirement, it creeps up on you faster than you think.

What’s on your bucket list for the next year? Travel to Japan, getting a motorcycle (yikes!), take my podcast on the road.

Anne Latini

ANNE LATINI

Current job: Art Director / Fast Company

3 things you can’t live without: Mintra Graph Ruled Steno Books, wired headphones, a full tin of King Arthur AP Flour ready to go in the pantry.

What’s your superpower? Always starting from a place of “yes”.

What do you listen to while creating? Whatever insultingly named playlist Spotify has dreamt up for their “fragile sad girl” that day.

Favorite TV show: Saturday Night Live.

What (or who) inspires you? Martha Stewart will always be my guiding light. Hold yourself to a high standard, work hard to make beautiful things, and f*ck the haters.

Advice for young creatives? Don’t be afraid to set long term career goals but don’t be discouraged if the road is more winding than you planned. Also, your creativity is not bottomless, it is an beast that must be fed.

What’s on your bucket list for the next year? Trying every single one of T Magazine’s 25 Essential Pastries to Eat in NYC.

Alice Morgan

aLICE MORGAN

Current job: Senior Art Director / Entertainment Weekly

3 things you can’t live without: Pilates, Spotify and my GIANT water bottle!

What’s your superpower? Listening!

What do you listen to while creating? Showtunes!!

Favorite TV show: Community and Superstore... anything that makes me laugh!

What (or who) inspires you? My fellow peers in the industry. I love stalking other creatives' work to get inspo!

Advice for young creatives? Always be open to learning more. Ask all the questions and take on the advice and ideas other people give you. That way you will become a really well rounded creative.

What’s on your bucket list for the next year? To pick up a pottery class.
Do something with my hands that gets me away from a screen!!!
