Job Description: People Magazine’s art department seeks a full time staff Associate AD to design print pages on the weekly as well as design motion graphics and other digital design work for our moving covers, projects for People.com and on our social media platforms. This position reports to the Design Director and on up to the Executive Creative Director with a dotted line to the Senior Digital Art Director.

What you’ll do: On an average week, you will design various pages of the print publication, ranging from more templated pages to free-form creative feature design. When it comes up (projects vary week to week) you will either assist or lead on the creative for motion graphics over our digital covers, animating type, creating animated shorts using imagery for our IG and FB accounts, creating graphics for the dot.com and social platforms and then switching gears back to print. You won’t be bored.

Job Requirements: 8+ years in the publishing business in a similar role or less if ready for advancement. Advanced knowledge of InDesign and AfterEffects is key. Proficiency in the entire Adobe Creative Suite is a bonus. We work in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Woodwing for Print; Adobe AfterEffects for animated type and graphics, and Figma, Miro and Greenhouse are our digital CMS programs and platforms, easily trainable if necessary on the latter.

The ideal candidate can shift between roles fluidly and swiftly, depending on the day. You’re flexible, good-humored, well-informed and fluent in the language of pop culture and high end publication design. You’re an excellent communicator, able to express yourself and your ideas to your colleagues in a forum where you’re often asked to collaborate and lead discussions around the best way to approach a page or a project. You are attuned to trends, ambitious about recognition for excellence across all our collaborative endeavors and you thrive in a fast paced daily news cycle. You have stamina and graciously pick up work when not busy (though that is rare), you work well under pressure and independently as well as welcome constructive criticism. An abiding passion for type play, color, and clever graphics is key to this role. And you are more than just faintly familiar with the world’s biggest magazine brand, you respect it, and “get it”.
