Data Visualization Developer, McKinsey & Company

Job Description:
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
You will be based in our Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, New York, or Washington DC office and you will be part of our tight-knit data visualization team that includes editors, creatives and content-operations experts. You will work with our firm’s editorial team, design team and external agencies to create high-impact data visualizations and interactives across our digital communication channels.

You will report to McKinsey’s head of publishing design & visual storytelling with a close working relationship with McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) - a tight-knit global team, collaborating with researchers, editors, production, and communications leads. Together with the McKinsey global publishing team, we ensure that the visual content and user experiences published by McKinsey are best in class, delivering highest value content in the most engaging way as part of our cohesive brand experience.

MGI is the business and economics research arm of McKinsey & Co. The Institute publishes a range of reports and articles. Its mission is to provide leaders in the commercial, public, and social sectors with the facts and insights on which to base management and policy decisions. Focus themes include productivity and growth, natural resources, human capital, globalization, and technologies and markets of the future.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Working with the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), you will conceive, prototype and develop high-quality data visualization for data-rich research reports, articles and social media.

In this role, you will use your creativity and collaboration skills to partner with designers, editors and researchers around the world in developing content that will be published across multiple digital channels and experiences including web, social and animation/video. You will help create content for digital platforms including web (McKinsey.com), social media, and the McKinsey Insights app.

You will work closely with editors to create content that matters to our audience, then taking ownership of and wrangling it into clear, concise stories and visualizations. You are passionate about designing and creating engaging, informative and accurate code-based data visualizations for data-driven stories, while also identifying opportunities to elevate that content by recommending new data visualization methods, tools, and concepts. You have storytelling experience for editorial content — ideally having worked with leading publishers and/or news organizations — and can showcase a portfolio of data visualization experiences built with font-end frameworks such as React and D3. You will collaborate with UX/UI designers, product managers and producers to create interactive experiences that resonate with and engage our audience. You will advance our group's capability to deliver innovative solutions that are pragmatic, scalable, impactful and memorable. You will be responsible for upholding McKinsey's quality standards, ensuring UX and code are compliant with firm engineering guidelines and standards, and with our design system. Balancing multiple projects and ensuring that short- and long-term deadlines are met is our standard way of working.
