Art Director, Clemson University Marketing and Communications

Job Description:
OVERVIEW: Clemson University Marketing and Communications is seeking an innovative and motivated Art Director to join our Design Services team. In this role, you'll work closely with the Executive Creative Director and other staff designers to bring our brand story to life in Clemson World, the University’s flagship publication and other priority areas supporting the universities strategic goals.

ABOUT YOU: You're an imaginative problem solver with an eye for detail and a knack for thinking outside the box. You have a customer-centric mindset and an innate understanding of the creative process. You possess a keen eye for visual design, a strong foundation in typography, and a mastery of layout design techniques. You're comfortable working within established brand standards while also pushing the envelope with fearlessly creative design solutions.

This full-time position, averaging 37.5 hours/week. Compensation commensurate with education and experience. Includes comprehensive benefits. The Art Director will report to the Executive Creative Director.

Job Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as lead designer for Clemson World for print, digital, social media, web and other media applications as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with the design, editorial, communications, video, web and photography teams to support the Clemson brand.

  • Develop compelling graphics and visual layouts for a range of projects, including print design, infographics, marketing collateral, direct mail, brand identity design, digital media, social media, and email marketing.

  • You’re able to operate as a visual storyteller and comfortable directing photography and video that aligns with your creative vision.

  • Understand and design for digital and social media platforms, considering their unique challenges and opportunities.

  • Develop compelling long-form layout designs for university student recruitment, implementing editorial layout best practices and techniques that help to meet strategic recruitment goals.

  • Ensure designs meet digital accessibility standards and comply with print production processes and specifications.

  • Utilize project management systems and tools to collaborate with teammates and to deliver projects on time and to specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Communications, or related major field of study.

  • At least 4 years of experience in a design, creative, or marketing role.

  • Expertise in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma.

  • Understanding of digital and print production processes, limitations, and specifications.

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards in the digital space.

  • Experience using project management systems and tools in a creative environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with animation and motion graphics, Procreate, illustration, email marketing, and 3D rendering is a plus.
