Job Description: AFAR Media, the critically acclaimed travel media brand headquartered in San Francisco and New York, is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic creative director to join our team. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of print magazine experience, strong typographic expertise, a keen eye for photography and illustration, and a sophisticated and innovative design sensibility. Both print editorial and digital design experience (in a media context) are essential. This role reports directly to the VP, Editor in Chief. This position is based in our San Francisco office.

Job duties
• Lead a creative team of 5 full-time in-house designers, photo editors, and video editors
• Be the visual steward for the overall AFAR Media brand, which includes the bimonthly magazine, AFAR.com, the non-profit AFAR Foundation, and ancillary special projects
• Work with editors and the creative team to define and craft the look of AFAR through photos, illustrations, and design
• Work with outside illustrators, typographers, motion graphics animators, and other artists to commission original work for AFAR
• Design magazine feature stories, departments, and covers
• Be a key decision maker on AFAR’s nascent video strategy

• Thorough knowledge of image processing and retouching, color correction, and CMYK pre-press and printing processes
• Must find satisfaction in both contributing ideas and doing the work to make them happen
• Must be detail-oriented and deadline-savvy
• Must have a passion for travel, and be interested in conceptualizing new and interesting ways to look at travel

Photography Intern, Avenue Magazine

Job Description: A New York City based luxury & society magazine is seeking interns to work part-time this summer on the Fall premier issue. Internships are also available throughout the year. The magazine is published 6 times a year and the position is unpaid with flexible hours.
