What You’ll Do

  • Design and project manage a variety of sections throughout Science magazine

  • Collaborate with other talented creators on the Visuals team—Photo, Graphics, Multimedia (Video and Podcast), and Web Content Strategy (web production and social media)

  • Design striking covers for our weekly and monthly online sister journals

  • Conceptualize illustrations by adapting stock images and art directing freelance and on-staff illustrators

  • Work within the K4 production system to track deadlines and keep the weekly magazine production on schedule

Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in graphic design

  • A solid grounding in basic science education, intellectual curiosity about science, and comfort with scientific ideas is essential

  • A love for (and experience with) print design. Magazine publishing experience, a plus

  • In-depth knowledge of Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). K4/InCopy/InDesign workflow and Figma, a plus

  • Familiarity with stock agencies and obtaining permissions/licenses for visual assets

  • A high level of design sophistication with an eye for the detail that makes good design great

  • A keen eye for photography and illustration, and exceptional typography skills

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and a good communicator

  • Motivated to work on projects independently, but also enjoys collaborating with a fun, creative team

Photo Editor, Texas Monthly

Job Description: Texas Monthly is currently seeking a creative, enthusiastic and hard-working chief photo editor to join its award-winning editorial team.
