Associate Art Director, Ankler Media

Job Description: Ankler Media is looking for an Associate Art Director to join our growing team. The Associate Art Director will work on projects across the company, from editorial to events to sales, and will be expected to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, and report to and be managed by Ankler Media’s Design Director.

The Associate Art Director will work in tandem and at the guidance of the Design Director on day-to-day newsroom design tasks as well as be independently responsible for longer-term design projects. Ankler Media’s footprint is largely digital (newsletters, websites, video, social media) but there are occasional print and live event projects as well.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working on a mix of creative challenges and essential daily design needs, on timelines both lightning-fast and long-term. The Associate Art Director should be an organized, proactive, and nimble problem solver with an enthusiasm for a fast-moving newsroom covering entertainment, media and technology for an influential industry audience. They will be someone who is eager to work within the existing Ankler Media visual language, with an attention to detail that adheres to the company’s design and editorial standards.

The Associate Art Director will primarily work East Coast hours, with occasional schedule flexibility required for breaking news, live events and unforeseen circumstances. The position is open to remote applicants in the United States.

Primary job responsibilities:

  • Photo illustrations for newsletter artwork

  • Photo research

  • Social media design

  • Podcast and YouTube thumbnail design

  • Sales deck design

  • Preparing Ankler event and shoot photos for distribution to media partners

Additional tasks may include:

  • Event collateral design (invites, signage, menus, presentation slides, etc)

  • Website design

  • Motion graphics design

  • Simple video editing

  • Wordpress post and email design/production

  • Marketing and advertising design (website house ads, partner ads, etc)

Job Requirements:

4+ years experience working in editorial design, digital media, or other relevant fields

Strong design portfolio with examples of:

  • Photo illustration / digital collage

  • Typography (with demonstrated understanding of typographic hierarchies)

  • Page layout (print or digital)

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Mastery of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign

  • Clear communication

  • Multi-tasking

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Familiarity with top social media platforms

  • Excellent visual judgment and editorial instincts

Experience with and/or enthusiasm to learn:

  • Figma

  • Wordpress

  • Adobe AfterEffects

  • Canva

  • Adobe Express

Benefits: Salary Range: $85,000–$100,000 annually, plus benefits.
