Job Description: The Arts/Publications Production Specialist described herein works directly with the director of Advancement Communications. The incumbent’s duties include art direction, design, and layout of a variety of assignments involving advertising, Web sites, promotional materials, brochures, newsletters, and other collateral for news and marketing purposes. He/she designs an array of materials for the Health Science Center’s advancement communications team. The incumbent must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with emphasis in InDesign. He/she assists the creative team with brainstorming and branding strategies. The incumbent must have excellent organizational and planning skills.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of experience with an emphasis on graphic design.

  • Basic knowledge of the interface of graphic design with commercial printing

  • Knowledge of the fine arts and their relevance to creating promotional materials that impresses and inspire

  • Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, and Flash; must have the ability to storyboard or translate ideas to designers and develop innovative graphics solutions for both print and Web

  • Good understanding of typesetting

  • Basic knowledge of commercial printing

  • Proficiency with InDesign, PageMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, or comparable electronic design software

  • Proficient at transitioning printed publications to e-Publications

  • Writing and editing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team toward organizational objectives

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Organized and detail-oriented
