Job Description: The Arts/Publications Production Specialist described herein works directly with the director of Advancement Communications. The incumbent’s duties include art direction, design, and layout of a variety of assignments involving advertising, Web sites, promotional materials, brochures, newsletters, and other collateral for news and marketing purposes. He/she designs an array of materials for the Health Science Center’s advancement communications team. The incumbent must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with emphasis in InDesign. He/she assists the creative team with brainstorming and branding strategies. The incumbent must have excellent organizational and planning skills.
Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of experience with an emphasis on graphic design.
Basic knowledge of the interface of graphic design with commercial printing
Knowledge of the fine arts and their relevance to creating promotional materials that impresses and inspire
Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, and Flash; must have the ability to storyboard or translate ideas to designers and develop innovative graphics solutions for both print and Web
Good understanding of typesetting
Basic knowledge of commercial printing
Proficiency with InDesign, PageMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, or comparable electronic design software
Proficient at transitioning printed publications to e-Publications
Writing and editing skills
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team toward organizational objectives
Ability to meet tight deadlines
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Organized and detail-oriented
