Laura Salafia, Illustrator

About: Hi SPD Creatives! I am a freelance illustrator in the Boston area focusing on portraits, editorial, poster art and book illustration. I have a passion for using portraiture to highlight activists and change-makers from around the world. Using bold color, unique textures, strong silhouettes and a realistic style, my artwork captures the spirit and energy of the person. I aim to create unique images that convey the humanity and authenticity of my subjects, using conceptual elements that support the narrative.

Recent clients include: Wall Street Journal, LA Times, New York Times, The Boston Globe, Forbes Magazine, Politico, Pentagram, Texas Law Magazine, Politico, Washington Post, Al Majalla Magazine, Think:Act Magazine, The New Republic, Washington Examiner, Apple News, and more.

My work has been recognized by the Society of Publication Designers, Society of Illustrators NY, American Illustration, Communication Arts, 3x3 Magazine, and Society of Illustrators LA. I am a member of the Society of Publication Designers, Society of Illustrators NY and LA and SCBWI.

I have illustrated three children’s picture books: Adventures of Jackie (2021) written by Lee Albright; How to Climb a Mountain (2024) written by Doug Murphy; and Something to Save, (2025) written by Doug Murphy.
