Ever wonder exactly how one gets from point A to point B in a career? If so, join celebrity photographer Stephanie Diani as she has a wide-ranging and potentially funny conversation with award-winning scenic designer Derek McLane about his time spent living in an unheated loft in Long Island City, and how his creative fires kept him warm.

Join them for a 45 minute chat about the how, the why, the lessons learned and the mistakes made, the successes, and the motivations to keep going, followed by mingling. As Stephanie says, this is “No perfect social media version of life, this is the real messy-ass deal.”

Ticket sales will be donated to The New Group, where Derek McLane serves as board chairman.

The New Group, led by founding Artistic Director Scott Elliott and Executive Director Adam Bernstein, is an award-winning, artist-driven company with a commitment to developing and producing powerful, contemporary theater. While constantly evolving, we strive to maintain an ensemble approach to all our work and an articulated style of emotional immediacy in our acting and productions. In this way, we seek a theater that is adventurous, stimulating and most importantly “now”, a true forum for the present culture.
