Join the Society of Publication Designers on Saturday, May 9th in DC for an independent magazine pop-up and collage workshop celebrating print, process, and community with our friends Paper + Dirt, Carla Frank Creative + Co., Living Room, and Steadfast Supply.
Curated by Chas Wagner from Pittsburgh’s Paper + Dirt, the pop-up features a global mix of titles spanning sport, food, design, art, and architecture—plus the people behind them.
Hear from design professionals, including Carla Frank of Carla Frank Creative + Co., on why print magazines still continue to shape culture and build community.
Flip through pages, discover new voices, and connect with fellow creatives before diving into a hands-on collage workshop hosted by Living Room DC, led by artist and co-founder Ray.
Hosted at Steadfast Supply, a community-driven shop championing independent makers, this is your invitation to unplug, make something, and be part of a slower, more tactile creative culture.
Come browse. Come make. Come hang.

Carla Frank doesn't just design magazines—she creates success stories. As the founding design director of O, The Oprah Magazine—the most successful magazine launch in publishing history—Carla understands what publishers and editors need to connect with audiences in increasingly competitive markets. Known for her rare combination of creative vision and business acumen, Carla and her studio Carla Frank Creative + Co. partners with publishing teams using an established process to transform challenges into opportunities, whether launching new titles or reinvigorating established brands.
Ray is a DC-based collage artist, workshop facilitator, designer, and, most recently, the co-founder of Living Room, a neighborhood space in Mount Pleasant where you can drop in, hang out, and make art. Their goal is simple: make creativity part of everyday life. It’s a warm, low-pressure place where making art is optional but always welcome. At Living Room: making is accessible, connection is natural, and art becomes part of how we gather.
